History & Context
Luoyang, one of China's ancient capitals, was transformed during the First Five-Year Plan (1953-1957) when the Soviet Union helped build major industrial projects here, including China's first tractor factory and a bearing factory. These became the foundation of Luoyang's heavy industry base. The defense sector grew during the Third Front era, with AVIC establishing aerospace optics and avionics facilities. Luoyang Float Glass Group, originally a state-owned glass factory, became a pioneer in ultra-thin electronic glass used in smartphone and TV displays. The city continues to bridge legacy heavy industry with advanced materials and defense technology.
