History & Context
Dezhou's solar identity began with Himin Solar Energy Group, founded in 1995, which grew into the world's largest solar water heater manufacturer. The company's founder, Huang Ming, drove the creation of the "Solar Valley" industrial park, which hosted the 2010 International Solar Cities Congress. This early bet on solar positioned Dezhou as a national renewable energy pioneer. The city has since expanded into PV cell manufacturing, wind energy equipment, and green building materials, though it faces intense competition from larger solar manufacturing centers in Jiangsu and Anhui.
