About This Project

The China Advanced Manufacturing Hubs Atlas is an interactive resource for understanding where frontier technology manufacturing is happening in China and how industrial geography is shifting.

What We Track

We focus exclusively on advanced manufacturing sectors: humanoid robots, semiconductors, electric vehicles, biotech, aerospace, quantum computing, and more. We do not cover traditional manufacturing like textiles, furniture, or basic consumer electronics.

The Core Story

China's advanced manufacturing is decentralizing. For years, frontier tech was concentrated in a few megacities. Now, through deliberate policy, infrastructure investment, and rising tier-1 costs, hundreds of smaller cities are becoming specialized manufacturing hubs. A tier-4 county can become a nationally important hydrogen hub. A tier-3 city can produce one in six of all EVs sold nationally.

Data & Methodology

Hub profiles are compiled from Chinese government statistical yearbooks, provincial industrial reports, company filings, and Chinese-language media. Industry output figures are estimates based on publicly available data. Rankings reflect our assessment of each hub's relative importance within each sector.

Update Schedule
